(Bold added). Jean Metzinger, 1911–12, Man with a Pipe (Portrait of an American Smoking), catalogue cover: Exhibition of Cubist and Futurist Pictures, Boggs & Buhl Department Store, Pittsburgh, July 1913Įdward F. It is also a short distance from Le Bateau-Lavoir, widely known as the birthplace of Cubism. This popular monument is just up the hill from where Metzinger lived and worked (Rue Lamarck) prior to his move to Meudon around 1912. In the rest of the scene, various items and divers elements are placed, including in the upper center (practically at the highest point of the painting) the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point of the city. ![]() On the left half of Metzinger's L'Oiseau Bleu, holding in her right hand a yellow fan (éventail) is a sitting nude who in her left hand holds a mirror into which she gazes. A large steamship can be seen bellowing gaseous vapor from its funnel in the distant sea or ocean, and a smaller boat (or canot) is visible below. Two other birds, in addition to the blue bird and scarlet ibis can be seen in the composition, one of which resembles a green heron. In front of the pyramid appears a shape that resembles a sundial, perhaps meant as the element of time, or 'duration', as the clock placed in the upper right hand corner of his Nu à la cheminée (Nude) of 1910. A mysterious pyramidal shape is seen as if through a porthole to the right of the reclining figure's head, though it remains a matter of speculation whether there exists any relation to the ibis or pyramids of ancient Egypt. ![]() The Ibis is a bird to which the ancient Egyptians paid religious worship and attributed to it a 'virgin purity'. Costume designers for Parisian cabarets such as Le Lido, Folies Bergère, the Moulin Rouge and haute couture houses in Paris during the 1910s used the feathers of the scarlet Ibis in their shows and collections. The reclining figure wearing a necklace shown in the lower center of the canvas is placed next to a pedestal fruit bowl and another bird with the unmistakable coloration of the rare Scarlet ibis ( L'Ibis rouge), a rich symbol for both exoticism and fashion. The central standing 'foreground' figure is shown affectionately holding in both hands a blue bird (thus the title of the painting). It is a mélange of interior and exterior elements integrated into one of Metzinger's most intriguing and successful compositions." L'Oiseau bleu, writes Joann Moser, uses a wealth of anecdotal detail "which comprises a compendium of motifs found in earlier and later paintings by Metzinger: bathers, fan, mirror, ibis, necklace, a boat with water, foliage and an urban scene. The work represents three nude women in a scene that contains a wide variety of components. L'Oiseau bleu is an oil painting on canvas with dimensions 230 x 196 cm (90.5 by 77.2 in). Īpollinaire described L'Oiseau bleu as a 'very brilliant painting' and 'his most important work to date'. It was subsequently exhibited at the 1913 Erster Deutscher Herbstsalon in Berlin (titled Der blaue Vogel, cat. ![]() 2087), several months after the publication of the first (and only) Cubist manifesto, Du "Cubisme", written by Jean Metzinger and Albert Gleizes (1912). L'Oiseau bleu (also known as The Blue Bird and Der Blaue Vogel) is a large oil painting created in 1912–1913 by the French artist and theorist Jean Metzinger (1883–1956) considered by Guillaume Apollinaire and André Salmon as a founder of Cubism, along with Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. ![]()

The grand finale is application of Gold Standard Tank Sealer, a superior single component, ready-to-use fuel tank sealer formulated for coating the inside of metal, aluminum and fiberglass tanks. It’s best to use a heat gun or blow dryer to ensure it is completely dry. After the rust has been removed the tank needs to be thoroughly dried. Rinse the tank out well with water and inspect to be sure all the rust is gone. Then pour out the RustBlast in a container, but don’t dispose of it yet in case the procedure needs to be repeated. Shake the tank thoroughly and let the RustBlast soak for about 45 minutes, rotating the tank around every ten minutes or so to etch all surfaces. When working with RustBlast, leave the agitators, which were used in the previous step, in the tank. The zinc will protect against flash rust in case the Tank Sealer can’t be applied right away. It will etch the surface and leave a zinc phosphate coating to ensure a strong bond with the Tank Sealer. RustBlast effectively dissolves rust, corrosion, metal oxides and tarnish from the inside of the tank. ![]() The next step is RustBlast, a powerful rust remover, zinc phosphate pre-primer and metal etch. The KBS Tank Sealer System is made up of three components. Whatever your tank holds will never touch the inside walls of your tank again. The KBS Tank Sealer System will stop rust and form a tough, fuel impervious coating while sealing small pinholes and weld seams. KBS Coatings offers the simple to use Tank Sealer System as an effective, high-quality and economical solution to clean, de-rust and seal your fuel tank. A good tank cleaning will help with this problem. The sludge settles to the bottom of a fuel tank and can clog filters when the vehicle is fueled. Diesel sludge is an algae-like substance that adheres to the tank surface or at the fuel water interface. ![]() Of note, if you have a diesel vehicle, diesel sludge contamination is another fuel tank issue to consider. And even a new tank that has not been sealed will start to rust causing the same problems. Replacement of the fuel tank can be very expensive especially in the case of some classic cars where the tanks are very pricey. ![]() If your fuel tank has rust there are two ways fix the problem: Replace the tank with a new one or take steps to clean the inside of the tank, remove the rust, and seal the inside with a fuel tank sealer. Rust in fuel tanks is more of an issue now than it was in the past since today's ethanol-gasoline blends are more corrosive than non-ethanol gasolines of the past. Particles can also clog fuel injectors and carburetors. Further, rust particles can collect in fuel filters restricting fuel flow meaning the vehicle can find itself getting enough fuel at idle, but then not enough when accelerating. Vehicles with in-tank fuel pumps can have issues as fine rust particles pass through the pump pickup strainer and into the pump causing damage. First, rust can create pin holes from which fuel can leak and it can also weaken seam welds creating a fire hazard. Rusting and varnish in a fuel tank can create problems. 8/7/2023 0 Comments Airtable search formula![]() EVEN(2.2)Ĭomputes Euler's number ( e) to the specified power.
